Story Sacks are about making books fun and bringing stories to life. For use both here at Grafton Childcare and at home our Story Sacks consist of a large cloth bag full of wonderful resources to encourage the children and staff to enjoy reading together.
Each sack is based around a well known picture story book in the larger format known as “Big Book Style” produced for Educational settings like ourselves and is supported by a fact book on a similar theme. The Big Book Format is ideal for sharing to groups of children during our daily circle time sessions, as they can all clearly see the beautiful pictures and text on the pages. To encourage role play soft toy characters props, puppets and scenery are added, the sack is then completed with some games, and sometimes even a CD of the story, activity guide and contents list. This wonderful yet simple resource is a must for all who enjoy sharing stories with children.
Here at Grafton Childcare we really value the use of our Story Sacks and are continually adding to our range and the contents of individual bags.
We purchased our first 15 Story Sacks from www.storysacks.com after attending training provided by the company which basically converted us all hook line and sinker to the whole concept of the Storysack®, their website is well worth a look if you wish to learn more about Neil Griffiths and how he came up with the initial concept for the Storysack®, We are always popping in to see what new wonders have been added to their shop and what bits and bobs we can buy to add to our other sacks! The new Winnie the Witch items are now firmly on our shopping list.
At the moment our Story Sack Library Consists of the Following Sacks which can be spotted hanging on the walls in the Conservatory, in the Hall above the children’s coat hooks and cubbies , up on our Landing and stashed underneath the stairs as we are running our of hanging space, so now have to rotate them all on a regular basis.
