Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) settings should publish how they will be using their EYPP. The EYPP is additional money which Grafton Childcare will receive for a very small number our funded 3 and 4 year olds if they meet the eligibility criteria.

The aim of the Early Years Pupil Premium is to close the gap between children from disadvantaged backgrounds and their peers by providing funding to early years providers to help them raise the quality of their provision. It will complement the Government-funded early education entitlement by providing Grafton Childcare with up to an additional £300 a year for each eligible child that takes up the full 570 hours with us. This equates to an hourly rate of 60p per hour per eligible child.

We plan on earmarking this funding for additional training for our staff on early language, supporting our staff in working on specialised areas such as speech and language and training the schemes such as 'Early Talk Boost'.

We have already used a portion of this Government funding to support disadvantaged children, including using it to purchase a set of 175 different Going Home Story Bags, because by looking at books, reading stories and singing rhymes and songs with older siblings and parents, children begin developing a love of books, becoming familiar with traditional songs, rhymes and stories. Our Going Home Bags support Grafton Childcare in developing strong links with parents, we have put together a great range of Going Home Bags that we use to establish a highly practical and easy to manage family lending library here at Grafton Childcare. We hope that the Children will enjoy choosing which bag they want to take home and find them easy to carry. They are made from a strong, waterproof material which fully protects the books and props in all weathers and have a transparent front panel to make it easy for children to see what’s inside. See our Going Home Bags page for more information.

We will also be using the EYPP to make early education available more flexible from 7.00 am until 7.00 pm, so that it can be accessed more easily by disadvantaged parents. Some of the EYPP will be used to access quality group training both from our Local Authority, Noodle Now, the Early Years Alliance and Pacey.

Finally we will use some of the funding to provide FREE breakfasts, morning and afternoon snacks for EYPP eligible children, it will however not cover the cost of our home-cooked lunches and evening meals and these must be funded by the parent at the cost of £1.50 per meal or parents can choose to provide their own packed lunches and dinners.

Our Senior Nursery Nurse will be responsible for gathering evidence and examples of our good practice and how we can demonstrate any immediate or short term impact the funding has made for not only our children who attract the EYPP but all of the children who attend Grafton Childcare.

The eligible groups for the EYPP will be children from low income families (defined as meeting the criteria for free school meals); children that have been looked after by the local authority for at least one day; have been adopted from care; have left care through special guardianship; and children subject to a child arrangement order setting out with whom the child is to live (formally known as a residence order).
