Here at Grafton Childcare we care passionately about the environment and use washable nappies, wipes and flannels throughout the setting and have done so for over 27 years.
Our parents are of course welcome to supply their own washable or disposable nappies to be used on their own child, should they prefer not to use Grafton Childcare's own washable nappies.
Tiny and Sprout two of our Dinkum Dolls are very excited to show you our new Tots Bots Easyfit - Smelliphant washable nappies from Babipur.
We have bought these to replace some of our other washables nappies which were now over 10 years old and showing their age!
We have been using washable nappies here at Grafton Childcare for over 27 years. Blimey has the design of washable nappies changed for the better in the past 27 years!
These Tots Bots Easyfit Star Smelliphant washable nappies are a simple, easy to use, reliable, one-size reusable nappy with a cute elephant design on purple.
Here at Grafton Childcare we love elephants and of course purple! Oh and they are made in Scotland so not many air miles on there beauties either.
We purchased a couple of these last year and have tried and tested them out over the Autumn and they have passed with flying colours.
We believe these cloth nappies are a fantastic all round reusable nappy that fits most babies from birth to potty (8-35lbs, 3.6-16kg). The size of the nappy is adjusted using poppers on the front and the velcro closure is simple to do up.
They have a highly absorbent bamboo core which folds out to speed up drying times and simply folds back in when it's time to use the nappy again. The Easyfit Star also has some new clever features and uses modern fabrics such as a hydrophobic material around the leg gusset and a stitch-free seam to prevent leaks.
Teignbridge District Council operate a Free Nappy trial Scheme where parents in Teignbridge can now borrow a real nappy trial kit containing a wide range of washable nappies and accessories. The kits are free and just require a £25 deposit, which is refunded on return of the kit. Parent receive very clear instructions on how to use all of the nappies in the kit, in addition, throughout the trial they will also receive support over the phone from an expert Real Nappy Advisor.
The kits contain at least 10 different types of nappy, with shaped nappies, all-in-one’s, one size ‘birth to potty’ nappies, covers, liners, sanitiser and re-useable wipes, in fact everything you need for the trial (you just need to provide the baby!
Modern real nappies are easy to use, once you’ve got into the routine, you’ll be surprised at how easy they can be and many are made from quick drying fabrics. The Teignbridge trial kits are available in 4 sizes; newborn, small, medium and large.
Borrowing a trial kit allows you to save the money that you would have spent on disposables over the 4 week trial period, this could help you to start off your own collection of real nappies.
The benefits of using real nappies are huge!
Cheaper: Using real nappies can save you over £500 compared to disposables, including laundry costs.
Better for the Environment: Every baby using disposables produces around 1.5 tonnes of nappy waste which is about 585 nappies. 28 million nappies are sent to landfill each year in Devon, that’s a nappy every 1.1 seconds!
More Comfortable:, many parents feel that real nappies made from natural fabrics are more comfortable for their babies.
Fun and Funky: There’s an amazing variety of designs, colours and types to chose between. Real nappies are made from a variety of soft and comfy fabrics such as organic cotton, bamboo and quick dry micro-fibre (fleece).
