We understand and regard partnerships with parents and carers to be of the utmost importance to the welfare of their children.
When a child joins us we like to gain as much information as possible about them so that we can make this new experience happy, safe and enjoyable for all concerned. We do this by encouraging lengthy guided tours and interviews with both the child and parents present when we can gather lots of information about your specific childcare requirements. At these meetings we will supply you with one of our very comprehensive packs to take away this contains:
1. A copy of our most recent Ofsted report and all other reports can be downloaded from our Ofsted reports page of this website.
2. A set of our Childcarer, Child & Parental Record & Permission Forms
3. A sample set of Contracts (please do not complete these).
4. A letter explaining parking arrangements here at Grafton Childcare
5. A letter explaining what we need you to send in your child’s bag each day
6. A set of fact sheets from the Devon Early Years & Childcare Service & a Childcare Choices leaflet.
We have an open door policy and welcome parents and carers if they wish to speak to their Child’s Keyworker or Manager about any issues, either in person, via the telephone, via email, or via your child’s Daily Dairy or Communication Booklet.
Daily chats via email are also becoming very popular and are very welcome during the day, they are ideal if you just want a quick update on how your child is settling, or a quick snapshot on what your particular child has been engaging with. This can be less distracting than your child’s Key Worker having to leave the room to answer the telephone as emails can be answered during quieter times during the day and in more detail.
Children about to start with us are encouraged to make one or two familiarisation visits with a parent or carer to help them settle in, the length and number can be tailored to the needs of each child.
All children have a Learning Journey compiled to record their progress and achievements at Grafton Childcare. Parents and carers are welcome to view these at any time. The Learning Journey will be given to the family as a record when the child eventually leaves us. This is a life long memory of the child’s time with us.
We also supply a two-way Daily Diary to record all mealtimes, nappy changes, sleeps and a brief snap shot of activities the child has engaged with so that parents and carers can know more about their child’s day. Older children are supplied with a Communication Booklet to encourage two way communication between parents and your child’s Key Worker. Our weekly blog contains detailed information of exactly what we have specifically planned for the following week so it is very important that parents sign up to receive our weekly blog so that you are kept bang up to date.
All children are assigned a Keyworker, who will be the primary carer for the child when at Grafton Childcare. In addition to regular communication between the child’s Keyworker and the parent / carer, everyday information and reminders are written into your child’s Daily Dairy, so it is vital that you remember to bring it each day so that we can keep it up to date.
For children attending Grafton Childcare we hold Saturday Morning Stay, Play and Chat sessions each July and November as well as regular weekly afternoon meetings when parents and carers can have the opportunity to speak to staff about their child’s development and progress in a relaxed atmosphere.
We encourage all parents, grandparents and carers to sign up to receive our regular blog, so you are kept bang up to date with what is happening here at Grafton. See our blog page for more details on how to sign up.
We have a large parents’ notice board just outside the conservatory door, on which we place lots of info which we send out via our Facebook Page and Newsletters. So for those who don’t have access to the internet, please remember to check our notice board for any changes.
