As Registered Childminders we are subject to inspection by Ofsted. Our most recent inspection was on the 12th September 2005 for which we received an overall grading of 'Good'. This is despite receiving two 'Outstanding' gradings from the inspector for aspects of our service.
The key inspection gradings and what they mean.
Outstanding: This aspect of the provision is of exceptionally high quality.
Good: This aspect of the provision is strong.
Satisfactory: This aspect of the provision is sound.
Inadequate: This aspect of the provision is not good enough.
At our inspection we were given judgements or gradings for each of the five outcomes as set out below and our overall grading is then set by the lowest grading we were given. So, although we received two 'Outstanding' judgements and three 'Good' ones, this gave us an overall grading of 'Good'.
'Good' you might well think sounds a bit bland. However the inspection process is very thorough and has to cover the entire 14 National Standards which have been broken down into 5 sections which are as follows:-
1) Helping Children To Be Healthy - for which our inspector deemed our provision to be 'Outstanding'
2) Protecting Children From Harm Or Neglect And Helping Them To Stay Safe - for which our inspector deemed our provision to be 'Good'
3) Helping Children Achieve Well And Enjoy What They Do - for which our inspector deemed our provision to be 'Good'
4) Helping Children Make A Positive Contribution - for which our inspector deemed our provision to be 'Outstanding'
5) Organisation - for which our inspector deemed our provision to be 'Good'
